Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Daas's topic for this particular section is on the importance of Sangat, (those whom you associate with); the ways it helps us merge with the Guru and fight our Haumai, (ego). This will be relatively short; however, many Sikh groups have mentioned the need for Sangat; which you may read about throughout the internet and in real life. So without further distractions lets move on to the importance of Sangat.
Sangat is important as it allows us to merge with a true essence as a group is stronger than an individual; if that group is united, (even in non-Gurmat importance). A story on the importance of Sangat was, when the historic Sikh, Joga Singh from the era of Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, (10th form of Guru Sahib), he was told to leave his wedding whenever Guru Sahib had given him Hukam, Joga Singh did this immediately and left in the middle of his wedding; however, he received Haumai, especially with the idea that only he could do what he did, he was away from any true Sangat; eventually he had absorbed the fall of Kaam, (lust), on him, and once he was interested in going to a brothel, (again no Sikhs were with him, and he was going alone), eventually the story went that when he was attempting to go there; there was a Sikh; who continually prevented him from going in, (Guru Sahib), Joga Singh attempted many times; however, the Sikh, (Guru Sahib dressed as a normal Sikh), continually prevented him; eventually Joga Singh gave up this Pakhand, (falsehood), after the entire night was done, and the Sikh, (Guru Sahib), was constantly blocking him, so he went directly to Guru Sahib's Darbar; in which he noticed Guru Sahib had been the Sikh all this time; and confessed to his Paap. The story moral was on the need for great Sangat and how we can assist each other as Sangat to prevent us to going to the darkness. How Sangat stops our Haumai? When we see others in Bhagti; we realize that we aren't the only ones following Hukam; but rather as a community. Once we are free from Haumai; we can merge with the Guru; (there are some; who seem to have merged with only inspiring Sangat; many Mahapurukhs people consider great; however, they have been Pre-Mukt; which is a concept for another time). Finally we get inspired to change internally, especially with how certain people are more progressed then ourselves. Saṯsangaṯ saṯgur cẖatsāl hai jiṯ har guṇ sikẖā. The Sat Sangat, the True Congregation of the True Guru, is the school of the soul, where the Glorious Virtues of the Lord are studied." Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Ang 1316. What we learn is the need for Sangat from Gurmat perspective. Vaheguru, bless us with good Sangat, hopefully Daas as well as the readers of this blog may be blessed with such Sangat to bless us all. Guru Sahib is the true king; however, Sangat is the way we can go there and grow. Vaheguru, Bhul Chuk Maaf Karni, (Forgive any mistakes from Daas). Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
